The Embodied Psyche
Current approaches to embodiment understand human experience not as a process in the brain alone, but as an activity of the whole organism in its interaction with the environment. What was traditionally attributed to the inner space of the “psyche” thus shifts into the lived body and into the person’s embodied relationships with their environment. For psychotherapy, intercorporeal resonance, the embodiment of feelings and the re-enactment of experiences therefore take on central importance.
The volume introduces the concept of embodiment and, on this basis, develops key themes such as the embodiment of feelings, interaffectivity and empathy, body memory and processes of embodiment in psychotherapy, illustrated with clinical and literary examples.
