How to Trigger the Ecological Transition

An invitation to take action: not as an operational manual, but as a testimony rich in stories that let you live firsthand the experience of a period in full transition.

Why do we hesitate to act for the climate or biodiversity, while the planet shows increasingly obvious signs of profound ecological upheavals? What pushes us to take the step and commit to action? Stein van Oosteren knows all too well the workings of this hesitation. Nothing particularly predestined him to engage in the fight for the climate. Yet there was a trigger, the need to do something, then the move to action.

In this book full of verve and enthusiasm, Stein van Oosteren reflects on the nature of our blockages and shares tools to overcome the vertigo and hesitations that accompany any commitment. Powerful in his own journey as an activist for cycling and as an attaché to UNESCO, he speaks about urban planning, mobility, food, health, education, and art while philosophically questioning our relationship to time, to others, to work, to words… His questions, punctuated with humor, shed a new and refreshing light on the possibilities for social transformation.

His message is fundamentally an invitation to action: not as a manual of militant practices would do, but as a testimony rich in stories that let us live firsthand the experience of a period in full transition.
