Psychodynamic Perspectives and Clinical Practice

Anxiety and anxiety disorders are universal yet deeply complex emotions which play a crucial role in the development of children and adolescents. In this book, Georges Cognet, psychologist and trainer, offers an original perspective that combines sensitivity, empathy, and scientific rigor. He explores the many dimensions of anxiety: its clinical forms, its everyday manifestations, and its impact on school, family, and social life.

This work stands out through:

  • A psychodynamic perspective that enriches understanding beyond traditional CBT-based approaches.
  • Clear thematic sections:
    • Reference Points: methods, techniques, questionnaires, thematic drawings, projective tests, and other practical tools.
    • Zoom: concise syntheses and key points designed to support understanding, retention, and diagnostic efficiency.
    • Clinical Portraits: case vignettes that illustrate or introduce core concepts.
  • A nuanced reflection on contemporary challenges, including the role of video games, school refusal driven by anxiety and common avoidance strategies.

Combining theory, clinical expertise, and practical guidance, this book provides practitioners and students with the tools needed to understand, evaluate, and support anxious children and adolescents with depth and precision.

READERSHIP: Clinical psychologists, education psychologists, and child psychiatrists.
