Fundamentals and clinical aspects of innovative disease-modifying drugs

The availability of novel anti-amyloid therapies for Alzheimer’s disease marks the beginning of a new era in the pharmacological treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. However, beyond clinical trials, little experience with such therapies has been acquired in Europe to date, leaving practising physicians, healthcare institutions, and patients with a host of questions about the potential use of these innovative substances. This book aims to address this desire for more information by providing a sound and practical overview of the theoretical principles as well as key clinical efficacy findings, requirements for diagnostics and therapy monitoring, and correct medical indication. It also provides a detailed description of the ethical, health economic, and logistical issues relating to the use of these new substances in the healthcare context.
