A Bridge Between West and Far East: The Best of Two Worlds for Vitality and Longevity

According to the WHO, cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death. Yet most guides look at the subject from one side only. This book takes a new path: it combines modern cardiology with the healing knowledge that has developed over 5,000 years along the old Silk Road.

Prof. Dr. Boris Bigalke is a cardiologist and nutritional physician (DAEM/DGEM) with an additional qualification in acupuncture. He is a senior physician and head of the DGK cardiac MRI training centre at the German Heart Centre of the Charité. Training in Traditional Chinese and Tibetan Medicine (TCM/TTM) and in yoga movement therapy round off his profile. In this book he brings his knowledge together in a clearly structured programme.

What awaits you:

  • Understanding medical history. A short journey from Mesopotamia via Egypt to China shows how early cultures sought to protect the heart, and what still holds true today.
  • Applying Western research. Simple explanations of the mTOR pathway, rapamycin and the ketogenic diet show how modern science strengthens the heart and blood vessels.
  • Using Far Eastern medicine. Ayurveda, Traditional Chinese Medicine and Tibetan Medicine provide herbal recipes, teas and treatment concepts that fit easily into everyday life.
  • Moving and breathing. Twelve illustrated heart asanas, short qigong sequences and gentle yoga flows get circulation, breath and chakras going, ideal for prevention and aftercare.
  • Eating well. Clear dietary guidelines combine the Persian teaching of warm and cold foods with Western low-carb and keto cooking, for a flexible meal plan without deprivation.
  • Strengthening the joy of living. Ikigai, music and community act as an inner shield. Discover why joie de vivre and good friends can lower blood pressure.

Five reasons to read this book: everything in one volume (research, movement, nutrition, meditation); evidence meets tradition, with current studies in dialogue with Ayurveda and TCM; twelve heart exercises with photos, explained step by step; tips that fit into everyday life, every method can be adapted when time is short; cultural and historical depth, 5,000 years of knowledge about the heart, freshly presented.

Unlike other guides, which separate high-tech medicine from spirituality, Bigalke shows how the two work together.
