We are too often seduced by the magnificent gardens featured in catalogues and books, which provide little or no explanation of how they were designed. We draw inspiration from them to design or redesign our own gardens, we rush into it without thinking about the difficulties that such work will entail, we make bad decisions… But plants that are poorly chosen or poorly placed struggle to thrive. We then realise too late that each structural element and each planting should have been considered as part of an overall vision.

This is where this book comes in! It offers a methodical approach to orchestrating and planning the garden of your dreams. With numerous illustrated step-by-step guides, it takes you from the initial sketch to the actual creation of the garden: sketches, managing slopes, scale plans, choosing the style of the garden, planting diagrams… It also provides step-by-step details on structural work (soil preparation, laying foundations, building terraces, steps, low walls, paths, ponds, etc.) and planting methods.

Whatever the size of your outdoor space and whatever your budget, this unique, 100% practical guide will enable you to create an enchanting garden that suits your tastes and blends in perfectly with your surroundings.

Olivier Dekeyser

After spending part of his youth on a family farm specialising in floriculture, market gardening, fruit growing and livestock farming, Olivier Dekeyser now manages his own land, works with other independent professionals (creating parks, ecological swimming pools, reforestation) and teaches horticultural techniques in Belgium.
