Perception, Judgement and Social Norms
The body and physical appearance affect the way others judge us and the way they interact with us, in all the many circumstances of life: attraction, everyday life, work, education and so on. They are the object of beliefs that are often mistaken, and a general ignorance of the mechanisms involved can create many problems, both practical and ethical.
This book presents a synthesis of the most recent research carried out by social psychology on the subject. It sets out in detail how we judge others and ourselves from the perception of our own body or another person’s body, and from physical and clothing appearance, covering the major themes of social psychology: social and cultural norms, the perception of self and others, social representations, and the judgement of self and others.
