How to make your body your friend

My body and I – a special relationship

How do I treat it? Am I happy with it, or am I constantly trying to improve it, perfect it or hide it? This book invites young people to get to know their own body image better and to treat their bodies with kindness.

Particularly during puberty, self-esteem is closely linked to one’s own body and appearance: weight loss or muscle building are widely seen as strategies for accepting oneself and being considered attractive. Body dysmorphic disorder and eating disorders are also significantly influenced by body dissatisfaction.

The book reaches out to young people in their everyday lives, uncovers dysfunctional expectations regarding their own body image and questions them. With the help of the suggested exercises from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), supplemented by schema therapy exercises, young people can find greater self-acceptance.

The guide can also be used to accompany therapy.
