STUNNING SHODO ART PAINTINGS BY THE CALLIGRAPHY ARTIST IZUMI KOHAMA
HAIKUS BY ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS JAPANESE WRITERS OF THE MEIJI ERA
DELUXE EDITION, LARGE FORMAT HARDCOVER, BINDING CLOTH – A GREAT PRESENT FOR JAPAN LOVERS
His poems, sometimes filled with humor, sometimes with severity, yet always with a powerful singularity, are a
true celebration of the present moment.
This book features a selection of Sôseki’s haikus, carefully chosen by artist Izumi Kohama, a talented
calligrapher and Shodo Art specialist, and translated by Claire Briant. Going beyond the codes of traditional
Japanese calligraphy, Shodo Art is an artistic practice that also breaks free from commonly accepted rules.
Resulting from a sense of freedom, Izumi’s magnificent works echo Sôseki’s poems, transporting the reader into
a dreamlike world.
Daughter of a Japanese master calligrapher, Izumi Kohama has been practicing her father’s discipline since the
age of seven. After training in art therapy, and thanks to the teachings of Tai Chi and Qi Gong, she developed
her own approach to the strict practice of Japanese calligraphy, and became a specialist in Shodo Art, an art
form that transcends tradition with the aim of opening up the field of possibilities.
