Moving Well Is Healing

A deluxe, enriched and updated edition by Aurélien Broussal-Derval and Stéphane Ganneau (GANO). A unique book at the crossroads of training, visual teaching and movement health, to better understand, maintain and optimise the human body. The reverse of the jacket is a poster of original illustrations by GANO.

A large-format, full-colour reference work bringing together the essential knowledge on human movement, mobility, breathing, pain, muscle chains and functional training:

  • 560 colour pages
  • 700 photographs of training techniques, to understand the principles of movement at once and put them into action
  • More than 100 original artistic and anatomical illustrations by GANO
  • Deluxe finish: embossing, gilding, selective varnish, soft-touch cover, ribbon bookmark and a jacket that turns into a poster

The Art of Movement offers a complete method in three pillars: understand how the body works, identify its limitations, then put concrete solutions in place to regain lasting mobility, improve performance and prevent pain.

  • Part 1, Movement: mobility, flexibility, motor control, balance and coordination, and the place of movement in health, performance and daily life.
  • Part 2, Pain: pain and movement, trigger points, self-massage and its tools, scanning and release protocols.
  • Part 3, Breathing: stress and breathing, the fundamentals of optimal breathing, reconditioning the diaphragm and training the respiratory system.
  • Part 4, Tests and mobility: torques, muscle chains, myofascial networks, kinetic chains, assessment, functional training and exercise variations.

For practitioners, coaches, trainers, strength and conditioning coaches, health professionals and anyone passionate about movement.

Aurélien Broussal-Derval

Aurélien Broussal-Derval is one of the most experienced strength and conditioning coaches on the international judo circuit, with more than 20 years in high-level training. A black belt in judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, he has prepared foreign Olympic national teams, including the British and Russian squads, and worked with the Flam 91 club. He holds a double university master's degree in sports training and physical preparation, and has trained more than 5,000 sports professionals in his methods. For many years he has written columns for the magazines L'Esprit du Judo and Matside. Since 2018 he has offered online courses and training programmes, with one aim: making complex concepts accessible and directly applicable.

Stéphane Ganneau

Stéphane Ganneau, also known as GANO, is a designer, artist and illustrator. He brings an immediately recognisable visual signature to the books he illustrates. His artistic and anatomical illustrations are not decorative: they take a full part in explaining movement, anatomy and technical intent. With Aurélien Broussal-Derval he created the visual world of The Art of Movement, whose new edition carries more than 100 original illustrations and a jacket that unfolds into a poster.
