A Case for Contemporary Psychosomatic Medicine

What is psychosomatic medicine? What distinguishes it from the highly technologized and thoroughly commercialised field of modern medicine? What does psychosomatic medicine contribute to medicine and society as a whole, and how does it relate to the challenges facing society today? Does psychosomatic medicine need to change? Do we still need it at all, or do we perhaps need it more than ever?

This anthology aims to spark a debate about a form of medicine that fundamentally rethinks the complex interplay between biological, psychological and social mechanisms, while consistently placing the subjective experience of illness at the heart of its concepts of disease, health and treatment.
