Insectoïdus is a beautifully illustrated book for everyone, young people, children and adults, for the curious, the adventurous and the dreamers, “a delight to leaf through with the whole family”, as Bruno Didier, journalist, author and editor-in-chief of OPIE’s Insectes magazine, puts it.

Mathilde Magnan’s book takes the name of an existing insect, unknown to the author, and invents its appearance and fascinating world from scratch.

Insectoïdus is the fruit of the overflowing creativity of the author, who trained in Fine Arts and Comics, specialises in children’s literature and naturalistic drawing and contributes to the illustration of books (Arnaques, dragues et botanique, Ramène pas ta fraise!) and the 4 seasons.

Mathilde Magnan chose 15 insect names and drew them as they appeared in her imagination, then described them with as much inventiveness as fantasy: anatomy, biotope, diet, habits, reproduction cycle, etc. The jagged magician, the death clock, the feathery chironomid, the masked reduve, the silky Lucile – discover these strange creatures that are as surreal as they are extravagant.
