The food forest originates in the tropics and is very popular in Northern Europe, Australia and the USA. This book is a precious guide to apply this new frontier of permaculture to the Mediterranean climate.

The term ‘food forest’ stands for a multi-purpose, multi-functional agricultural system where woody trees, fruit plants, medicinal herbs, legumes, grains and vegetables coexist in synergy with wild plants and local animals. Whether it is a small plot or a large rural area, the goal is to recreate or restore as much biodiversity as possible, similar to that found in a forest ecosystem.

Drawing on her long professional experience in Italy and abroad, the author illustrates in detail and with numerous practical examples how to create a food forest in a Mediterranean climate, which is characterized by significant temperature fluctuations and a low availability of water.
