Pathways of Initiation into a Living Spirituality

We are medicine bags which hold the sacred objects of healing which we are seeking. We hold within us the precious thing, the hidden secret, which we are seeking, but because we do not understand the nature of who we are, we seek our medicine elsewhere. This book follows holistic psychiatrist, David Kopacz’s initiation into a pathway of a living spirituality from medicine man, Joseph Rael. As David learns from Joseph, he shares that learning with us. In trying to understand the process of becoming a mystic, a visionary, and a shaman, David draws on the teachings of Jung, Corbin, Rumi, Whitman, Alice & John Coltrane, Miles Davis, and the mystical branches of indigenous, Christian, Sufi, and Hindu teachings. Initiation is the way of learning ancient wisdom that has been passed down from generation to generation back from the beginning. It is a circular pathway, like the medicine wheel, that starts where we are, disorients us through a separation from who we think we are, initiating us into a new way of being, and returning us back to where we started, but now transformed, seeing the world through new eyes and having a new sense of purpose and responsibility to promote spiritual democracy.
