System design and implementation of power supply systems with battery storage

Configuration and construction of autonomous power supply systems with battery storage.

The book provides in-depth knowledge to users and planners about the components and the technical-practical construction of autonomous power supply systems in the low voltage range (typically 12 V or 24 V). It shows how these are designed and built, from providing lighting in the gazebos to the autonomous supply of small trade or agricultural businesses. Topics such as batteries (lead-acid and lithium-ion), alternators, solar generators, calculation of Pelton turbines, system dimensioning, efficient consumer loads, inverters, installation, electrical grounding and lightning protection are covered in a practice-oriented manner. In addition, unconventional techniques such as the use of small hydroelectric power, future storage systems and autonomous photovoltaic storage systems for sustainable homes are also presented.

The execution explanations are the result of the authors’ many years of experience with the design and construction of autonomous power supply systems.

Georg Bopp

Georg Bopp, Qualified Electrical Engineer, has spent many years working on research and development of photovoltaic-systems and batteries at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems in Freiburg and has overseen the installation of autonomous electrical power supply systems in Germany and abroad.

Philipp Brückmann

Philipp Brückmann, electrical engineer specialising in energy and control engineering, has been self-employed since 1985 and has worked on various photovoltaic systems and hydroelectric power plants in the Alps and diverse research projects, i.e. a project on energy storage utilizing compressed air.
