For people who experience a loss, the world stands still. Nothing is the same as before, everything is turned upside down, while outside normal life continues to bustle on as if nothing had happened.
The Wimmel Book of Saying Goodbye addresses the simultaneity of life and suffering and follows a variety of people who must process a farewell over the course of a year: in the six large-format “wimmel” pictures they, amid the bustling everyday life, go through phases and rituals of mourning, repeatedly experience pleasant encounters with their fellow human beings and moments of joy, hope and consolation. Suitable for bereavement support and for all life-interested people from age 3.
A Wimmelbook to keep on bustling
The project initiators, the illustrator Andrea Peter (among others: “The Switzerland Wimmel Book”, “Soso, Many Shoes” etc.) and the palliative physician Sophia Bartorestein (hospital specialist Diaconis, Bern), worked closely with school social workers and many other (specialist) partners to develop this unique Wimmelbook. And it will continue to have activity beyond publication: gradually accompanying materials (also for school use) will be made available on the book website at www.wimmelbuch.ch. In addition, (initially in Switzerland) informational and mediation events will be organized with various partners.
