From Water, Source of Life, to Global Trade

If our planet is nicknamed the “blue” planet, it is because of the composition of its atmosphere but also because more than 70% of its surface is covered by seas. Or more precisely by one sea, the world ocean, whose parts, whatever names humans have given them, communicate with one another. Planet Earth is in reality the “Seas” planet and the role the world ocean plays in the climate appears each day more important and decisive for our future. It is also by the sea that people and goods circulate, allowing economies to develop.

From the appearance of liquid water more than 4 billion years ago to diving robots exploring the abyss, this work retraces, in 100 dates, the eventful history of the ocean and its exploration.
