New Futures for Aviation
No sector is more divisive than aviation. While it is ever more urgent to act on the climate, there have never been so many aircraft in the sky, and this mode of transport, which brought humanity closer together and made a globalised world possible, has never been as unequal as it is today. Some believe technological progress will solve the climate crisis; others hold that the aeroplane has no place in a sustainable future.
How do we define desirable futures for aviation? Four comic authors, Héloïse Chochois, Maureen Guérin, Élie Huault and Pierre Jeanneau, have looked into the question. With the help of Matrice, a centre for technological and social innovation, they drew on the thinking of researchers, specialists, industry figures and even passengers to build stories illustrating four forward-looking scenarios for 2050.
New fuels, new ways of travelling, new ways of regulating traffic or prioritising flights: by using fiction to illustrate these hypotheses, they offer an artistic point of view and bring elements of an answer for present and future generations.
