How the metabolic disorder HPU keeps the body and mind in a state of alarm.

Constant fatigue, anxiety, muscle and joint pain or digestive problems – these vague symptoms can be triggered by the metabolic disorder HPU (haemopyrrol lactamuria). This detoxification disorder leads to a serious deficiency in important micronutrients. It is estimated that around one in ten women and one in a hundred men are affected. Despite its high prevalence, the clinical picture is relatively unknown and those affected often have a long history of suffering.

HPU triggers a disastrous chain reaction in the body. A faulty production of the substance haem leads to impaired detoxification function and a progressive deficiency of various micronutrients that are important for numerous vital processes in the organism. If the problem remains undetected, the deficiencies become more and more serious over the years, which can lead to numerous complaints in a wide range of symptoms: chronic fatigue, thyroid disorders, adrenal insufficiency and migraine are just a few of them.

Author Sonja Schmitzer only received her diagnosis after decades in search of the right treatment and subsequently developed her own successful therapy concept. Scientifically sound and practice-oriented, she explains the background of HPU and how we can manage it.
