a meditative journey through japanese notions of presence, consciousness and the art of living. nita bard-burguy practised with master taisen deshimaru, one of the leading transmitters of zen
buddhism in the west.
This book takes the reader on an introspective journey through the words and concepts associated
with the practice of ensō, the zen art of the infinite circle : it consists of an alphabet book composed of
50 Japanese words as well as 50 artistic and philosophical zen concepts.
Aida (interval), bokki (spirit of the ink and the brush), kū(vacuity), mushin (detachment)… Let words
carry you away and dive into the infinite depths within you.
Ensō, besides being a Japanese circle, is also a deep meditation, a calligraphy opening the doors to
the zen mind. It is an exploration of the wisdom which comes to life when the mind calms down and
silence manifests itself.
Nita Bard-Burguy has been fortunate enough to practice different spiritual paths with Japanese and
Chinese masters. Her exceptional encounters, including that with Japanese master Taisen Deshimaru,
one of the main transmitters of Zen Buddhism in the West, led her to deepen her experience and share
this Zen meditative art: ensō.
