Thierry Paquot

Thierry Paquot is a philosopher and urban planner.

In 1979, he defended a doctoral thesis in economics entitled “Nationalisation: property and power: elements for a history of economist ideology within the French workers’ movement” at the University of Lille.

He has taught at various institutions, including the Paris-La Défense School of Architecture and the Institut d’urbanisme de Paris, where he is a professor emeritus.

He has also held several positions in the media devoted to urban planning. He was editor of the magazine “Urbanisme” (1994-2012), producer of the programme “Permis de construire” on France-Culture (1996-2000).

He was producer of “Côté ville”, on France-Culture in Métropolitains by François Chaslin and the scientific manager of the programme “La forme d’une ville au Forum des Images” (Paris).

He has given courses at the School of Architecture of La Cambre (Brussels) and at the Department of Urban Planning of the University of Architecture of Venice, as well as numerous conferences in France and abroad.

He has been a member of the National Academy of Street Arts (ANAR), the Neology and Terminology Commission of the Ministry of Equipment at the French Academy, the Audiovisual Commission of the Dapa (Ministry of Culture), the Commission du Vieux Paris, and has been a member of the editorial boards of the journals Esprit, Hermès, Prospero, La Revue du MAUSS, Diversité-Ville École Intégration, and has collaborated regularly with Le Monde Diplomatique, Informations Sociales, Projet and Études.

In 2014, he created an annual review, “L’Esprit des villes”, published by Infolio, of which he directed the second issue, published in December 2015.

He is the author of over forty books, including “Un philosophe en ville” (2011) and “Poétique de l’eau, actualité de Bachelard” (2013).
