A world-renowned oenologist and renowned taster, he is considered, along with Jean Ribéreau-Gayon, to be one of the fathers of modern oenology. A brilliant scientist, an outstanding educator and populariser, he was the advisor to many great Bordeaux wines and wine estates throughout the world.
