A practical handbook for self-building hives, choosing natural remedies against bee diseases, and managing the apiary in a way that is environmentally sustainable and low-cost

The author, drawing on his long experience as a beekeeper, illustrates an innovative method based on the adoption of hives that are easy to build and even easier to manage. It is an “extensive” beekeeping that, unlike intensive conventional beekeeping, minimizes stress on the bees by limiting interventions on the hives to the strictly necessary.

This method is low-cost, because it can be practiced with self-built hives made from recycled wood (such as that used to make pallets), and also environmentally friendly, because it does not resort to the use of synthetic drugs in treating diseases and respects the ethological needs of bees.

The many illustrations help the reader to apply this simple and easy-to-manage technique his or her own.
