And other little critters
For many gardeners, the vegetable patch is a special, sometimes unique, meeting place with nature and its inhabitants. The simple aim of this book is to help readers discover, learn about and better understand the various housemates that live there, whether they are cultivating a square meter or a few acres. Insects mainly, centipedes, gastropods or crustaceans, living permanently or only passing through, the vegetable garden is also their corner of nature that we must share with them. For us, a space to produce and feast on, for them a place to meet, amorous or fatal (sometimes both at the same time!), a place to be born and grow, a place to eat or to be eaten… It is clear that our interests are not the same and when the worm is in the lettuce and the cabbage leaves are full of holes, the perspective changes… Their ways of life are no less interesting, and knowing their customs is useful both for identifying them and for knowing how to take them into account and protect them in the garden.
