Céline Leboeuf

Céline Leboeuf, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Philosophy and Affiliate Faculty in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Florida International University, where her research addresses what it is like to be embodied in a social world, with an emphasis on body image and women’s issues. She completed her BA and PhD at Harvard University. Drawing on both feminist philosophy and her own recovery from restrictive eating, her work blends theory, personal narrative, and cultural criticism to challenge our fixation on thinness. Her essays have appeared in outlets such as Medium, the Project Vox blog, and Psyche, and her op-ed “Body Positivity Is Fixated on Beauty” was awarded a prize by the American Philosophical Association; in 2024 she received a Marc Sanders Philosophy in the Media Fellowship. She has been featured as an expert in Vogue, The Atlantic, and The New York Times, and has spoken on podcasts including the Overthink Podcast and the Philosophy and Therapy Podcast. She is also the creator of the “Why Philosophy?” Substack, a newsletter for students, philosophy professors, and other lovers of wisdom.
